Laundry Symbols Explained
Not sure what the wash care symbols on your clothing label mean? Here is a quick guide to common temperature limits and handling instructions.
Always follow garment care labels carefully. A gentler cycle than specified is safe, but higher heat or harsher treatment risks shrinking or damaging fabrics.
Do Not Wash
Do not wash this garment in water. Professional dry cleaning is recommended.
30°C Wash
Wash garments at or below 30°C. Ideal for delicate items, silks, woollens, and eco-friendly washes.
US Dot Equivalent
40°C Wash
Suitable for cotton, linen, acrylics, viscose, and wool blends. The standard everyday temperature.
US Dot Equivalent
50°C Wash
Wash garments at or below 50°C. Recommended for polyester mixtures and synthetic fabrics.
US Dot Equivalent
60°C Wash
Ideal for bed sheets, towels, and heavily soiled cotton items requiring thorough sanitisation.
US Dot Equivalent
70°C Wash
Wash at or below 70°C. For heavy white cottons and linens suitable for boiling.
US Dot Equivalent
95°C Wash
Maximum washing temperature for heavy white cottons, workwear, and high-temperature sanitisation.
US Dot Equivalent
Hand Wash Only
Do not machine wash. Hand wash gently in warm water with mild detergent.
Do Not Wring
Do not twist or wring out garments by hand as it damages delicate fiber structures.
