Bedding Maintenance
Duvet & Bedding Care Tips
Simple ways to care for your duvets, quilts and bedding between professional cleans.
Daily Bedding Care
- Fold back your duvet in the morning to allow the bed to air.
- Shake and fluff pillows regularly to help maintain their shape.
- Ventilate the bedroom regularly where possible.
Storing Duvets & Quilts
- Use a breathable cotton or fabric storage bag rather than airtight plastic.
- Store bedding somewhere cool and dry, away from damp.
- Clean and completely dry bedding before putting it into seasonal storage.
Protecting Your Bedding
- Use a duvet cover to help protect the duvet from everyday dirt and body oils.
- Wash duvet covers regularly according to their care instructions.
- Consider pillow protectors for an additional layer of protection.
Avoid These Bedding Mistakes
- Don't wash a large duvet in a machine that cannot accommodate it properly.
- Avoid storing bedding while it is damp or insufficiently dried.
- Don't use bleach or harsh cleaning products unless the care instructions specifically allow them.
Feather & Down Care
- Shake and fluff feather and down bedding regularly.
- Always follow the care label before washing or tumble drying.
- For specialist feather and down cleaning, ask our team about the most suitable service.
When to Clean Your Bedding
- Consider professional cleaning when changing between seasonal duvets.
- Clean sooner if bedding becomes visibly soiled or needs freshening.
- Follow the manufacturer's care instructions for washing and cleaning frequency.
Seasonal Bedding Care
Winter Preparation
- 1. Clean summer bedding before putting it away for the season.
- 2. Store it in a breathable bag somewhere clean and dry.
- 3. Take winter bedding out of storage and allow it to air before use.
- 4. Check the care label and consider professional cleaning if needed.
Spring Refresh
- 1. Clean winter bedding before storing it away.
- 2. Cleaning several bedding items together can make use of multiple-item discounts.
- 3. Air bedding thoroughly before returning it to storage.
- 4. Check for stains, damage or other issues before storing.
When Is Professional Duvet Cleaning Useful?
Duvets and quilts can collect dirt, dust, body oils and everyday build-up over time, even when they are protected by a cover.
Professional cleaning is particularly useful for bulky bedding that is difficult to wash or dry properly at home, or when an item needs specialist care because of its filling or fabric.
For feather, down, delicate or unusual bedding, check the care label and speak to our team before cleaning so we can advise on the most appropriate service.
Got Questions?
Duvet & Quilt Cleaning FAQs
Answers to common questions about duvet, quilt and bedding cleaning in Cardiff.
How long does duvet cleaning take?
Most duvets and quilts are ready within 2–3 working days from drop-off. An express same-day service may also be available for urgent items, subject to availability. Please ask our team when you drop off your bedding.
Can you clean feather and down duvets?
Yes. We provide specialist cleaning for feather and down-filled duvets. Cleaning and drying methods are selected according to the filling, fabric and care instructions, with careful drying to help redistribute the filling and restore its loft.
Does duvet cleaning help remove allergens and dust?
Professional duvet cleaning helps remove dirt, dust, allergens and everyday build-up from bedding. We use appropriate washing temperatures, cleaning products and rinse cycles according to the fabric and filling. If you have particular concerns about allergens, please discuss them with our team when you drop off your bedding.
What sizes of duvets do you clean?
We clean duvet sizes from single through to super king. Our standard sizes include single (135 × 200cm), double (200 × 200cm), king (225 × 220cm) and super king (260 × 220cm). Oversized, continental or unusual-sized duvets can be assessed individually, so please ask our team if you are unsure.
How much does duvet cleaning cost?
Duvet cleaning prices start at £15.90 for a single duvet and range up to £26.90 for a super king. Double duvets are £18.90 and king size duvets are £22.90. Standard pillows are £8.00 each and cushions are £6.00.
Discounts are available for multiple items: 10% off for 3 or more, 15% off for 5 or more, and 20% off for 10 or more items. See the full duvet and bedding price list above for details.
Can you clean silk or delicate quilts?
Delicate bedding should always be assessed according to its fabric, filling and care label. If you have a silk, satin, antique or otherwise delicate quilt, point it out to our team when you drop it off. We can advise on the most suitable cleaning method, which may include specialist cleaning rather than standard washing.
Do you clean pillows and cushions too?
Yes. We clean pillows and cushions as well as duvets and quilts. Standard pillows are £8.00 each, while cushions are £6.00. Decorative pillows are priced separately. If you have a particular filling or pillow type, please ask our team so we can check the most suitable cleaning method.
How often should I have my duvet professionally cleaned?
How often bedding needs professional cleaning depends on its use, filling, fabric and care instructions. Many customers choose to have their duvets cleaned when changing between seasonal bedding. If your bedding has become visibly soiled or has been affected by spills, pets or other everyday use, professional cleaning can be a useful way to freshen it up.
What if my duvet is stained?
Stain pre-treatment is part of our cleaning process where appropriate. Point out any stains when you drop off your duvet so our team can assess them and use suitable targeted treatment before cleaning. We cannot guarantee removal of every stain, particularly old or set-in marks, but we will assess the item and advise you on what can reasonably be achieved.
Can I wash my duvet at home instead?
Some smaller duvets may be suitable for home washing, provided the care label allows it and your washing machine and dryer can safely accommodate them. Larger duvets and feather or down-filled bedding can be more difficult to wash and dry evenly at home. Professional cleaning provides suitable commercial equipment and controlled drying for bulky bedding.
Do I need to bring anything with my duvet?
Just bring your duvet, quilt or other bedding item to Drift-In. We provide free collection bags for taking cleaned items home. There's no need to make an appointment; simply drop in during our opening hours. If your bedding has stains, delicate fabrics or special requirements, let our team know when you drop it off.
What are your opening hours?
We're open 7 days a week: Monday–Tuesday 9am–6pm, Wednesday 9am–8pm, Thursday–Saturday 9am–6pm, and Sunday 10am–8pm. For express same-day bedding cleaning, please check availability with our team and ask about the required drop-off time.
